Most of Texas orders provide that an obligation to pay child support ends when the only child or the youngest child turns 18 years of age, unless the child is still enrolled in high school. If the child is still enrolled in high school, the obligation to pay child support continues until the child graduates.

The following requirements must be met to close a child support account:

  • There must be no legal action or litigation of any kind currently pending in the case.
  • The child must be eighteen (18) years old.
  • There must be a current address on file for the obligee.
  • Child support must be current with no arrearage.
  • Domestic Relations Office fees must be current.

Documentation must be provided. The necessary documents are:

  1. Copy of last Court Order and
  2. Copy of high school diploma, or
  3. Certified or notarized letter from school, or
  4. Certified or notarized high school transcript, or
  5. GED certificate

If the child support has paid through income withholding, the Child Support Registry will notify the employer to discontinue deductions.

My child's mother brought my daughter to me and literally disappeared for approximately 3 whole years! Attempts to contact the mother by emails, phone calls, text messages, social media, family and friends yielded nothing. I then contacted Fathers For Equal Rights for help. Within a week we were in court and signing papers.
